Shiite Muslims mourn in the squares and streets their hands in a certain rhythm called 'sine vurmak' and sing hymns at the commemoration ceremonies in Iran held for the anniversary of the martyrdom of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussein, and his 72 companions in Karbala. 
Shiite Muslims commemorate Imam Hussein by singing hymns called 'nohe' in small groups called 'deste' on Tasua night and Asura day. Some groups beat themselves with their hands in a certain rhythm called 'sine vurmak' (beating the chest). Some groups beating themselves with a wooden stick. 
Group leaders guide the group by giving rhythm to the chants. Shiite Muslims attend commemoration ceremonies by dressing in black due to mourning. The name of these commemoration programs is generally called 'Sahsey' (Shah Hussein).
